1K a year This is a professional position responsible for assisting in providing comprehensive academic advising and support service programs to assigned student-athletes.
Responsible for coordinating and monitoring student-athletes' degree progress and NCAA academic eligibility; assigning and verifying study hall hours and coordinating tutorial sessions; conducting proactive mentoring with identified at-risk student-athletes; and assisting with recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
Supervises assigned student staff.
Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Reports to the Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Services.
Essential Job Functions Oversees academic progress of assigned student-athletes by monitoring continuing eligibility and degree progression using NCAA, conference, and university guidelines.
Monitors, tracks, and projects academic eligibility, grade point average, academic performance rating, admissions status, etc.
Reports findings and analysis to head coach and assistant coaches as needed.
Advises, mentors, and counsels assigned student-athletes in academic curricula, graduation requirements, and university policies and procedures.
Identifies and works closely with at-risk student-athletes to ensure continued eligibility and academic success.
Assists in design and implementation of comprehensive academic advising and support services for student-athletes.
Liaises with professors and advisors regarding academic progress/deficiencies, class time missed due to team travel, and other circumstances regarding class attendance or special needs.
Assists with coordination of tutorial program and study hall, to include hiring and supervising tutors.
Assists in designing and implementing instructional activities, materials, programs, services, and strategies for use with individuals, small groups, and/or department-wide.
Coordinates administrative processes involved in supporting academic programs.
Supervises assigned student staff.
Provides instruction to help student-athletes learn strategies for academic success and to assist student-athletes in developing more effective study strategies, time management, and accountability.
Interacts with prospective student-athletes and their families, coaches, and guidance counselors during recruitment process.
Gathers data for purpose of monitoring student success and preparing reports.
Non-Essential Job Functions Adheres to all applicable NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
Attends university, conference, NCAA, and other organizational meetings, as assigned.
Works outside normal office hours and weekends as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of policies, procedures and guidelines established by the conference and the NCAA.
Knowledge of developmental academic advising, retention management, and/or instructional strategies effective for college-aged students.
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Ability to learn office- and university-specific software.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with coaches, students, staff, and external constituents.
Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
Ability to provide support for student development with demonstrable concern for students.
Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their commitment to the institution and each other.
Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions.
Ability to acquire and maintain knowledge of university curriculum and degree requirements and to interpret them in the context of individual student needs.
Ability to supervise others.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Physical Demands Required Education Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
Required Experience and Training Two years of related experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in intercollegiate athletic academic support, student services, or instruction is preferred.
Academic advising experience is strongly preferred.
Special Conditions for Eligibility This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.
Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Commensurate with Experience, Salary Grade - 14 Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting Is Background Check Required? Yes Benefit and Retirement Eligibility This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
